Ubuntu 24.04 - left side of screen sometimes not usable

I am using:

Ubuntu 24.04 LTS
Kernel 6.8.0-38-generic
Displaylink driver 6.0.0-24 from the Synaptic repository

It works well when started up, but eventually the very left hand side of the left screen (dual monitor) becomes unusable; the mouse cannot move into or click in it. The area migrates towards the centre of the screen over time and makes the whole system unusable.
