Allowed ontology (MONDO IDs)

MONDO (Monarch Disease Ontology) merges several different vocabularies into a single ontology structure, including some non-human disease ontologies. These include Orphanet, OMIM, Disease Ontology (DO), NCIt, EFO and others.

The interface supports the entry of MONDO IDs, which may be mapped to one or more different ontologies such as those listed above.

Finding a MONDO term

  1. Use the MONDO OLS Search to find the correct disease term (this search is linked from the disease modal in the ClinGen interfaces). Note: be certain you are only searching MONDO in the OLS as it supports the search of a wide variety of ontologies:

  1. The MONDO OLS has a type-ahead function – below is an example of what is found after typing “preimplan…”

  1. To get information for a term (including its MONDO ID, definition, cross references /mappings to other ontology terms), click on that term’s name (see arrow above) – you will see something similar to the following:

If provided, read the “definition” to make certain it matches the disease to which you are curating.

  1. If the term is correct, copy the “id” in the Term info window (“MONDO:0000218” in this example) and paste it into the interface disease modal that appears in the GCI and VCI when you choose to add a disease.

Note: You can click the copy button in the OLS header to save the MONDO ID for that entry to your clipboard
