any and all contraptions crash game (pojavlauncher)

Context

whenever I try to make contraptions with another add-on mod installed (either valkyrien skies, pehkui, or currently, ad astra), even if it's just a single block on a rotational bearing, the moment you rotate it, the game crashes and throws "application/game exited with error code -1, check latestlog.txt for details" in my face. without the aforementioned mods above, I can run contraptions just fine with only fps loss as the main issue, but the moment I try to run any of these mods with this, create and flywheel just cause the game to crash.
i've tried selecting options to delete erroring block entities and erroring entities (which is what allowed me to start making contraptions, before I'd just get an error code 6, but anyways), that doesn't seem to work anymore.
is there something i'm just not getting?
