Meeting notes

(by Bob/Kenneth)

Quick introduction by new people

  • Julián Morillo (BSC, working on MultiXscale)
  • Sabry Razick + (University of Oslo)
  • Hyacinthe Cartiaux (Team Lead System Administration HPC, University of Luxembourg)
  • Steve Messenger (HPC Architect, AWS)

EESSI-related meetings in last month

(see slides)

Progress update per EESSI layer

Filesystem layer

(see slides)

  • new Stratum-0 is in place
    • a couple of temporary Stratum-1 server available too
    • temporary because they were not installed fully automatically
    • also using hardcoded IP addresses rather than proper hostname (via DNS)
  • could look into ingesting 2023.06 compat layer for software.eessi.io
    • already done manually for aarch64
    • require new S3 bucket (and manual upload)
    • can then set up auto-ingest on new Stratum-0
Compatibility layer

(see slides)

  • there was an idea a while ago on having subversions of compat layer to allow quickly opting in to a previous version with older package versions
  • maybe we should make security policy describing what we do (not) do in terms of security
Software layer

(see slides)

  • We may also have to make a missing-installations YAML, similar to the known-issues one, that lists which installations are missing for particular CPU targets
Build-and-deploy bot

(see slides)

  • PR#220 has been merged and includes a bugfix for the squeue issue, so we could make a 0.1.1 release already
  • As a first attempt to build and install something with the bot, Pedro added BAMM, and this was a very painless experience
EESSI pilot repository

(see slides)

  • ...
EESSI Contribution Policy

(see slides)

  • We prefer using --from-pr over just using the latest state of the EB GitHub repositories, because it's easier to keep track of what we're using to install software.
EESSI test suite

(see slides)

  • ...
EESSI Infrastructure

(see slides)

  • should we consider Terraform Cloud as an alternative to Atlantis?
EESSI Support Portal

(see slides)

  • If you have any questions on using EESSI, or need help with adding software to EESSI, please contact the support team via https://gitlab.com/eessi/support or support (at) eessi.io

AWS/Azure sponsored credits

(see slides)

  • We're working on an automated cleanup procedure for the bot to get rid of old tarballs, which should reduce the EFS costs

MultiXscale EU project

(see slides)

  • Tentative date for CVMFS training event: 4 Dec 2023
    • But we need to make progress with the content of the tutorial
    • Go/no-go by the end of October
  • CI/CD collaboration via CASTIEL@
    • Some reservations due to security/ISO certifications and installing CernVM-FS services on the nodes

Events

  • Unsure if PackingCon'23 is going to be streamed, but it will probably be recorded
  • SC'23 in Denver
    • Sabry will be there as well, up for helping where needed

Q&A

  • Jörg is interested in having CP2K in EESSI, he's going to try and add it himself by opening a pull request to the software layer repo
  • Next meeting is Thu 2 Nov 2023
