I'm in the same boat. I used this plugin successfully for years, but it definitely didn't work in 2023 and isn't working in 2024. I can't recall anymore the last year it worked for me if it was 2021 or 2022.

It used to work connected to the SDA and SCL pins on the pi which are 3 & 5. Then the documentation changed to say pins 23 & 24 and other comments here seem to suggest GPIO 23 & 24. I've tried all combinations without any success, but when connected to GPIO 23 & 24 it displays y's on the plugin whereas the others are blank. I really wish this plugin would be updated to restore usability.
