MD_ImageDescription(from Content information) has 2 illumination angles: illuminationElevationAngle and illuminationAzimuthAngle (cf. B.2.9.1 in ISO 19115-1).

Definitions - that are provided in 19115-1 under B.2.9 Content information as follows - should be clarified; for example, with a note indicating that illumination angles = solar angles for optical, and = sensor view angles for active sensor.

Definitions in 19115-1

  • illuminationElevationAngle
illumination elevation measured in degrees clockwise from the target plane at intersection of the optical line of sight with the Earth’s surface
  • illuminationAzimuthAngle
illumination azimuth measured in degrees clockwise from true north at the time the image is taken
NOTE For images from a scanning device, refer to the centre pixel of the image.
