Current Islandora (2.0) documentation does not indicate that Fedora integration is required. It states the following:
"Integrates with Fedora - Drupal resources can be stored in Lyrasis's Fedora Repository (version 5.0 or greater) as binaries (files) and RDF metadata."
The key note there being "can be stored". However, all the current deployment options, including manual installation assumes that Fedora installation will be there.
Please provide instructions for installing Islandora Starter Site without Fedora integration. If Fedora is not required, then Flysystem may not be required. This option will be useful for small projects that would like Islandora features such as the metadata profile, viewers, collection organization, oai-pmh, citation etc, but do not have want or have the capacity to make use of Fedora.
