When running screenfetch directly from SSH (with ssh user@instance "screenfetch -n"), shell line is empty as expected but I got realpath: /proc/8271/exe: Permission denied above the screenfetch output.

is not screenfetch is realpath you can test:

ssh localhost realpath /proc/$PPID/exe

I just tested two versions of realpath (the ones that I have in some systems)

9.1 the error exist

9.5 no more error
