Summary of Events:

First Operation (November 2013):

  • I generated a BTC key using Multibit Wallet version 0.5.14 on my iMac running macOS (referred to as Key 1).
  • After generating the key, no further actions were taken (e.g., no transactions or transfers).
  • I kept the iMac and the wallet software intact and refrained from installing additional software or using the computer for other purposes to preserve the integrity of the wallet and key.

Second Operation (January 2018):

  • I used a MacBook running macOS and the Multibit HD wallet to successfully decrypt Key 1 and synchronize the wallet.
  • After decryption, the balance was correct, and everything operated normally (e.g., I could enter the password to decrypt the old key and export a new key).
  • No new transactions were made, and there were no transaction records beyond November 2013. The balance remained consistent with the amount recorded in 2013.
  • During this operation, I exported a new key (Key 2) with a different password from Key 1, but I did not record the wallet address associated with the export.

Third Operation (August 2021):

  • I attempted to use the old iMac and the original Multibit Wallet version 0.5.14 to decrypt Key 2, but received the error: "Could not decrypt input string".
  • Confident that the password was correct, I tried decrypting Key 2 with Windows versions 5.17 and 5.19 of Multibit, but encountered the same error message.
  • I reverted to using the old iMac and the original Multibit Wallet version 0.5.14 to decrypt Key 1. This was successful, and after synchronization, I noticed a transaction from June 2014 transferring nearly all the BTC, leaving only 0.005 BTC in the wallet.
  • I am certain that I did not make this transaction, as I had not interacted with the wallet since November 2013.
  • Strangely, this transaction did not appear when I updated the wallet in January 2018, and the balance was correct at that time.
  • Using the old iMac and the Multibit Wallet version 0.5.14, I successfully transferred the remaining 0.005 BTC in August 2021, leaving a balance of 0 BTC.

Current Concerns

  • Why can’t I decrypt Key 2 even though I am confident the password is correct?
  • Who initiated the June 2014 transaction, and where were the BTC transferred? How can I recover the missing BTC?

Your expertise and guidance on resolving these issues would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance for taking the time to assist me. Your help means a lot!
