The buster branch runs on the ISFS DSM3 and includes various developments for that platform, including automatic hardware control to set serial transceiver modes, and sensor metadata querying and auto-configuration. There needs to be a way to disable the hardware interface on targets which don't use it, ie, aircraft and servers. Also, there may be significant refactoring to merge all the changes that have happened on both branches, including in the build configuration.
