How to determine document's status?

How can we know what is a document's status? From my understanding, there are several statuses for a document:

• issued
• surrendered
• revoked (shredded?)

Using oa-verify library, I can see that the DOCUMENT_STATUS is valid, but it doesn't tell me what state of the document it is in.
