I am currently figuring out how livestream tag could support radio stations and podcast who play music. Sadly as we all know music has to be licensed, and with services like TuneIn, Radio.Garden and others now having to block radio stations that don't have licenses in the UK.
I am suggesting an open standard that would allow service like TuneIn, Radio.Garden and podcast apps to easiely know if a livestream is licensed.
It would also even streaming providers like Live365.com, Shoutcast and PodToo to offer an xml radio feed that has all the details like approved broadcast areas / or country codes that we don't want this feed to be shown in.
Here is why we should have a tag called geoblock:
Livestream url is technically meant to have geoblock in it, meaning you might show the feed but then when a user plays it won't play, or will play a message saying "Station has been blocked". We can solve this issue by adding a tag and then the podcast app or any app can look at this list and say X user is from USA this station is not valid in USA
It prevents lawsuits against the app, as you have done everything in your power to make sure a station / livestream is licensed.
I would also like to see a tag to say that this livestream is a radio station not just a live stream of a podcast.
I would say that geoblock should be a required field for livestream - but I know many will disagree.
