Pre-submit checks

  • I checked for similar issues beforehand, but could not find any, not even closed ones. I could not add my bug report to any existing issue.
  • I am going to take the time to to fill in all the required details. I know that the bug report will be dismissed otherwise.

Describe the bug

  1. I do not have AppImageLauncher installed yet
  2. I have an existing folder of AppImages at ~/apps/
  3. I install AppImageLauncher, I specify my folder as the location of AppImages: ~/apps

Bug:

  • When I double-click on an AppImage in that folder, AppImageLauncher does not ask if I want to integrate the app

Work-around:

  1. I moved my AppImages to a different folder and launched them
  2. AppImageLauncher displayed and asked me to ingrate and moved them into my folder

Expected behavior

I think a good solution would be to add a note that the folder specified for the AppImages should be empty to start.
That way you would not need to make any code changes.

Steps to reproduce the issue

  1. AppImageLauncher not installed
  2. Have an existing folder of AppImages
  3. Install AppImageLauncher
  4. Specify the folder of AppImages as the folder for AppImageLauncher to use ("Location where to store you AppImage files to ease their management")
  5. Try to run one of the AppImage files - AppImageLauncher will not ask you to integrate

Are you sure the daemon didn't pick up your AppImages directly after you changed the configuration so they're all integrated already? It shouldn't ever ask for such a directory and the directory doesn't have to be empty.

My existing AppImages were not integrated into my environment yet. I could open the appimage, but nothing appeared in my menus, etc.

It was only after I moved those appimage files out of the folder and opened them that AppImageLauncher detected and integrated them (in menus, etc), and moved them into my folder.

I'm SUPER happy to have found this app, as I was just living with manually launching my AppImages.
I just noticed this weird behavior after installing it and thought I would report it.
