The thing that jumped out at me are the links to NWISWeb in the pop-ups. I would like to suggest changing your links from ‘nwis.waterdata….’ to ‘waterdata…’ There are more waterdata servers and they tend to be quicker since they only deal with real-time data (No QW, etc.). We like to keep real-time hits off nwis.waterdata since it has enough to do already.
This is just the link in the popup that leads to the site, it is not effected by date change, so I think it's safe to change this.

I'm testing this locally, and I know he said that the waterdata servers tend to be quicker but that is not what I'm seeing so I'm putting this issue on hold. Maybe we could use the new waterdata pages?
