Extended Mapping System #173
Comments
This is definitely something for us to take up with the sectorfile team - there's quite a bit of crossover with what they're doing, but sounds good in principle :) |
Just to add to the above. |
VRPs we already have the data for in the sector file, but I don't think it's worth the hassle creating symbols for these as they'd have to be hand drawn/generated and wouldn't resize, as you say. But any plugin feature could use the coordinates from the sector file. Heli route fixes could be defined in the sector file if we have coordinates for them, then drawn on top in the same way. Spot height/obstacles - this seems like a lot of data to be keeping track of?
This is a feature of the TopSky plugin at the moment, that 'Maps' can be turned on outside of Display Settings and also be set to automatically turn on at different zoom levels / different times. |
Extend Euroscope mapping capabilities beyond the default sector file.
Would use an additional file to define mapping features such as:
VRPs
Helicopter route fixes
Spot height/obstacles
Etc (eg airspace structures that don't fit in with out current convention or when different colours would be beneficial [ie distinguishing a radar buffer from and RMA which both are coloured by the STARs definition]?)
Default symbology would be as per UK CAA charting:
VRPs = Circle surrounding vertical cross
Heli route fixes = Empty triangle
Spot height/obstacles = Upside down V
Additional functionality would be to expand the Euroscope display system with a "Mapping" onscreen menu/window. The user would be able to define regularly used mapping features per ASR and turn them on/off by use of the mapping menu/window. This would save time over opening display settings and finding the relevant settings.
