How do I localize [Markdown source string URLs]{1}?

I couldn't find an answer to this anywhere:
in my source strings, Markdown links show up as [link text]{integer that stands in for the actual URL}.
If I repeat this in my translated strings as [translated link text]{same integer as source}, the link shows up in the generated target Markdown file.
However, I couldn't find a way to change the URL if I need to (e.g. when the URL points to a FAQ article that exists in several languages, so the URL itself can and should be localized).
Can someone please help me out?
