OK, let's get started with the WordPress Community news.

Remember to Test and Report, and look for Bugs.
🟢 ··· WP-CLI 2.9.0 ···
WP-CLI v2.9.0 Release Notes
A new release of WP-CLI, WP-CLI v2.9.0, is now available. For this release, we had 62 contributors collaborate to get 225 pull requests merged.
This is a small release with the main purpose of polishing PHP 8.2 support and ensuring compatibility with WordPress 6.4. Nevertheless, apart from the flurry of bugs that were fixed, we also have a few new features that I’ll want to highlight. As always, you can also skip directly to the detailed changelog if you prefer.
Save the date! WP-CLI Hack Day on Friday, November 10th. On 2023-11-10 an official kick off the WP-CLI Hack Day at 0800 UTC.

PREVIEW: WordPress 6.4 PHP Compatibility
This is a preview from the next WordPress 6.4 PHP Compatibility post.
We are waiting for more information about the "What “compatible with exceptions” mean?"
🟢 ··· Hosting Test tools ···
Last week [JavierCasares] had the opportunity to have several conversations with Test [ironprogrammer] and Core [priethor] about the possibility of redoing / optimizing / modifying the test tool (both test-runner and test-report).
Several possibilities arose that I leave here to understand what would be optimal, whether to make the tool from scratch or modifying the current one.
Change the base system to something like wp-env. In principle the idea is to use the system "as is", that is, as close as possible to what is given to end users, i.e. an account with web server, database and PHP. Any system that does "things" (like setting up a Docker) comes out of the basic idea of testing what users use.
Include some scripting to automate. Right now everything depends on the execution of the 4 PHP. It would be nice to include some scripting to be able to automate and validate things (NodeJS versions, PHP versions, etc...) and thus be able to launch the execution according to the different cases.
Having the possibility of launching more than one test, such as including those of WordPress MultiSite, and even the possibility of testing different PHP versions (even if every so often -once a year?- requires a manual adjustment).
Include this project as part of the Five for the Future in an "official" way, and get companies and volunteers involved. This could mean setting up a small team, with weekly meetings and defining a roadmap.
It has even been proposed that this tool, or complementing it, could test WP-CLI and even "play with (Project) Tide" to be able to analyze certain common plugins in installations.
In any case, all these are just ideas right now and we are in "data gathering" mode to make a decision.
What do you think, does anyone think that your company could involve someone in the project with 4 hours per week, for example?
🟢 ··· Hosting Team Reps for 2024 ···
In a few days we will announce the entry for the Team reps voting call.
As in previous occasions, the process will have 3 phases:
Call for Team Reps, so that those of you who want to, propose (or propose yourselves) as possible Team Reps of the team for 2024.
Once we have the list of names, we will consult with all those proposed if they want to enter into the election.
Once the candidates are chosen, they will be contacted, and once they accept, on January 1, 2024 they will start.
In the next few days, as we said, we will open the first of the calls.
We will base the calling on this Team Reps document. So we can modify the actual proposal if needed.
Some things that could be modified (these are ideas to be voted on):
🟢 ··· Events / Contributor Day ···
Heads up, some events are coming down the pipeline along with some Contributor Days with a planned Hosting Table to participate in:
Is anyone going to another WordCamp and wants to lead a Hosting Table?
And...
🟢 ··· State of the Word 2023 ···
State of the Word 2023 – Save the Date
It’s time to save the date, December 11, 2023, for this year’s State of the Word!
State of the Word is the annual keynote address delivered by the WordPress project’s co-founder, Matt Mullenweg. Every year, the event shares reflections on the project’s progress and aspirations for the future of open source.
For the first time, State of the Word will take place outside North America–this time with the Spanish community in Madrid, Spain. The event will be live-streamed to WordPress enthusiasts around the globe via WordPress.org social media platforms.
Open Floor
Ok, if nothing else, let's move on to ··· Open Floor ···. Folks are welcome to bring any topic up for discussion at this time.
...
