Shortly after the release of WordPress 6.4 we got another maintenance release to fix four bugs in WordPress 6.4.

Have you already started (or even finished) your upgrades to 6.4 and 6.4.1? Any issues so far with your environments?

🟢 Twenty Twenty-Four

• Introducing Twenty Twenty-Four

Breaking from past traditions of focusing on a specific style, this theme caters to entrepreneurs, photographers, artists, writers, and bloggers.

It introduces over 35 customizable patterns for different page templates and sections like FAQs and testimonials.

The new Site Editor enhances site building with features like background image support and vertical text. It also offers interactive visuals with lightboxes and dynamic content loading without page refreshes.

Aesthetically, it presents a modern design with fonts like Cardo for headlines and sans-serif for text, plus eight style variations for personalization. Performance optimization is also a key focus, ensuring a fast user experience.

🟢 WP-CLI Hack Day 2023

• Twenty-One Merged PRs for WP-CLI Hack Day 2023

The second ever WP-CLI Hack Day is now complete! It was a ton of fun to collaborate with folks all over the world — without the long airplane flight 😊

We had twenty-one pull requests that were merged during the event. In addition to those, we had an additional four pull requests that were submitted during the event that wasn't yet merged.

Ok, let's move on to Hosting Team time.

Hosting Team Time!

🟢 WordPress Hosting Team event

NOTE: This is a floating idea, but something probably happening.

You have known for some time that we are thinking of holding an event that would include the Hosting, Performance, Tide, Security, and Sustainability teams, all from a “sysadmin” perspective.

This idea could be suggested as an event led by the Hosting team and could be held (annually?) the day before WordCamp Europe (Wednesday, before Contributor Day -Thursday-).

For 2024, and after speaking with the WCEU organization, it is not possible to use the same venue, but we have some options in Turin. An event for about 50–80 people is conceived.

The idea is that it should be an event for professionals in the sector (it cannot be limited to just anyone, but attendance could be prioritized for those working in hosting companies or in the sector).

The goal (unlike Contributor Day) is to put on the table aids, technologies, and any elements that the WordPress Community can offer to hosting providers.

Launching some topics that could be interesting:

• Improving test tools
• Providing additional information on Tide and PHP compatibility with plugins and themes
• Sharing tools and public information among companies (through the team)
• Propose “Case Studies” for both the Hosting and Enterprise teams.
• …

As we say, it is a floating idea, not yet requested from the Community team (but already discussed with them).

• We need to create a small lead team. Right now @Crixu and @javiercasares are leading the project. Do you want to participate?

• We are going to start checking venues and some other things. That will require a first meeting. Do you want to participate?

🟢 Hosting Team Reps for 2024

The Call for Nominees is out:

Please add Nominees to the comments, via DM to an existing Hosting Team Rep or in the linked survey

As in previous occasions, the process will have 3 phases:

1. Call for Team Reps, so that those of you who want to, propose (or propose yourselves) as possible Team Reps of the team for 2024. This is open until next week November 21st, 2023 at 23:59 UTC.
2. Once we have the list of names, we will consult all those submitted if they want to enter into the election.
3. Once the candidates are chosen, they will be contacted, and once they accept, on January 1, 2024, they will start.

In the following days, as we said, we will open the first of the calls.

We will base the calling on this Team Reps document. So we can modify the actual proposal if needed.

Some things that could be modified (these are ideas to be voted on):

• Have 2 and not 4 Team Reps.
• Involve volunteers to lead the weekly meetings (Team Reps would facilitate the topics and agenda).
• Have “Project Leads”, including, for example, leading the documentation, or testing tools.
• Have only one weekly meeting and work more asynchronously. The first and third week would be at 0900 UTC, and the second and fourth week of the month at 1800 UTC.
• Create weekly meetings to work and make progress on projects (such as documentation or test tools).
