Sorry to bother you, what is your file manager? I'm using Dophin but I have black folder/files names on dark background and in general a light theme in all kde apps on Niri. I don't get how to apply (kde) theme in Niri too. Can you/someone give a tip to me? Thanks! |

Bar: None. wldash is a launcher and doubles for the purpose of time/date/volume indicator. Also using wine-wow64 without multilib with wine's wayland driver.

I used to be a Gnome user before tiling WMs. Back when Gnome removed systray I got used to it since extensions kept braking I eventually started to run vanilla Gnome and grown to appreciate clean minimal interface. Now on Niri I chose not to run a bar. And I don't miss the systray really. But then again I barely have any GUI programs on my system. Most of the programs are CLI or TUI with few exceptions. I kinda miss the workspace indicator. I hope niri will implement Gnome style overview #759 Anyway, it's all very subjective and my own personal preferences. 😃 |

You can do that fairly easily with eww, since there is a built in tray functionality, and you can specify if the widget exclusive zone or not |

I really want to remove the tray from my bar, but I need to frequently switch between 3-4 different VPNs, which the nm applet is quite handy for. Not sure there's a good replacement. |

theres probably not a ready made one but ive used a simple shell script with zenity for a long time and it works beautifully, you just make your own dialogues and open them however you want |

A custom script enhances the output of I am satisfied with the result, the only improvement is sorting the icons based on the position of the windows but currently it is not possible, I think. |

Not very usable yet, but my setup to eventually potentially use niri for my tablet and potentially a phone down the line Things that I am waiting on
Eventually I also want to try my hand at making a TV config, which more or less has some of the same limitations with some more painful ones like OSK going to be really hard to do. |

OSK is the last major issue, wvkbd should be fixed by rust-x-bindings/xkbcommon-rs#59 but until that is merged and a release happens I can't make a proper demo on tablet. I have looked into other OSK solutions, but all either have some pretty bad issues or are too basic to be used. Squeekboard I found to be relatively buggy, I can't config it very much either. maliit seems to require too much integration with DE so i haven't really looked into this. on my radar and first initial thoughts are the following, I may just make configs for all of these. Any other ideas would be appreciated. but as it stands, wvkbd seems to be the best option, albiet not currently possible. (although being a rust fanboy, I may go full steam ahead on starcolorkeyboard and try to get it to work hehe) |

Once xkbcommon-rs tags a release I will make a showcase video of using niri with wvkbd, it's in a state that is... mostly usable, closing applications is a bit of an issue for some apps because they don't have a close button, but doing what plasma-mobile does and having an on screen button to do so is... not great, too many times accidentally closed an app. I'm not super happy with the performance of it, but usability wise, it's really solid on my tablet, Have yet to try it on my phone via termux. As for the IME support, I tried both chewingwl and kime and can concurr that wvkbd does not work with them, @uetcis do you know if other DE's have similar issues? I personally don't use IMEs at all, but this feels like a pretty important avenue of investigation. |

I haven't committed Niri's config file because I wanted to iterate on it quickly without having to run I'm running waybar, alacritty, Firefox with the new sidebar and some Catppuccin themes installed with Stylus. I'm on a Framework 13" laptop and the output scale is set to 1.4, which feels bad on a gut level, but somehow I feel like it's the sweet spot for the display's DPI... Niri's really working out well for me on this laptop. I wasn't completely sold on the infinite scroll but it feels very natural! I'd love to switch to it on my desktop as well, but since I use it for gaming I'm afraid I might run into some issues that I really don't want to deal with when I just want to play some games. Maybe I'll give it a try when I have some spare time. |

Good to know! On this laptop, Steam's main windows is a black void on xwayland-satellite and I haven't really figured out why, because GIMP for example works fine. I'm guessing it has to do with fractional scaling (which I don't need on my desktop). |
