Issues with streaming

Audio streaming does not go smoothly and often breaks, I have to use VLC instead

Anything I can provide to support this issue?

Had same Issue, try to disable Battery optimization for MPDroid, this fixed Streaming for me.

I used some other awesome mpd feature instead...I use mpd on the phone and configure it to connect to satelite mpd which actually handles the music dir. so the local mpd plays the music, the satelite mpd handles the music dir, playlist etc and MPDroid controls the local mpd...

Also web browser could be used for streaming. At least Chrome. It worked better than MPD client app sometime, but there was breaks in that, too.
