The Manipal University ACM Student Chapter believes in creating and maintaining a community of learning individuals which is open and welcoming for all regardless of gender, race, sex, ethinicity, religion, language, sexual orientation, preferred programming language, text editor or operating system.

This document outlines the expectations from any individual related to the Chapter in any capacity.

<h3 id="orgheadline2"><span class="section-number-3">1.2</span> DOES THIS MEAN NO FUN?</h3>

No. We are a diverse group and all of us believe in the idea of having fun. But we also strongly believe that being disrespctful/insensitive to others is not a respectable way of having fun and should be avoided. <h3 id="orgheadline3"><span class="section-number-3">1.3</span> SCOPE</h3>

The code of conduct applies to all the members of the Core Committee members of the Chapter, including the Executive Council as well as all Chapter Members. This code of conduct is not limited to Chapter settings and can be applied to non-Chapter activities as well.

<h3 id="orgheadline9"><span class="section-number-3">1.4</span> EXPECTED BEHAVIOUR</h3>

The following outlines the behaviour expected of the Chapter members:

<h4 id="orgheadline4"><span class="section-number-4">1.4.1</span> Be respectful, considerate and collaborative</h4>
<div class="outline-text-4" id="text-1-4-1">
<p>
Respect your fellow individual and help out in the Chapter activities by being a good team member.
</p>

<h4 id="orgheadline5"><span class="section-number-4">1.4.2</span> Avoid using demeaning, discriminatory or harrassing behavior and speech</h4>

Do not use abusive language or behaviour against anybody in any setting based on race, gender, ethnicity, or favourite programming language.

<h4 id="orgheadline6"><span class="section-number-4">1.4.3</span> Be mindful of your surroundings and report activities which violate this code of conduct</h4>

Act according to what is fit for the situation and bring to the notice of relevant individuals any acts which go against the expectations of the Chapter as defined in this document.

<h4 id="orgheadline7"><span class="section-number-4">1.4.4</span> Avoid and disclose any conflicts of interest</h4>

<p>
Refrain from getting into situations which put you in a conflict of interest with respect to the Chapter and it's aims. In case you find yourself in such a sitation, make a full disclosure of the same to the Officers of the Chapter at the earliest.

<h4 id="orgheadline8"><span class="section-number-4">1.4.5</span> Don't Be Evil</h4>

<p>
Just don't. Be honourable, helpful and supportive in all situations, do what is best for the Chapter and when in doubt, consult your trusted peers and/or officers of the Chapter for further course of action.
</p>

<h3 id="orgheadline10"><span class="section-number-3">1.5</span> UNACCEPTABLE BEHAVIOUR</h3>

<p>
Unacceptable behaviors include: intimidating, harassing, abusive, discriminatory, derogatory or demeaning conduct by any member.
</p>
<p>
Harassment includes: offensive verbal comments related to gender, sexual orientation, race, religion, disability; inappropriate use of nudity and/or sexual images (including presentation slides); deliberate intimidation, stalking or following; harassing photography or recording; sustained disruption of talks or other events; inappropriate physical contact, and unwelcome sexual attention.

<h3 id="orgheadline11"><span class="section-number-3">1.6</span> CONSEQUENCES OF UNACCEPTABLE BEHAVIOUR</h3>

<p>
Unacceptable behaviour as outlined above will not be tolerated. At the first offence, the offender will be asked to stop and will be expected to comply. Any further offences will lead to expulsion from the team/event/Chapter immediately.
</p>
<p>
Appropriate actions will be decided by the members of the Executive Council in consultation with the members of the Core Committee. The Executive council reserves the right to make the binding decision in all cases.
</p>

<h3 id="orgheadline12"><span class="section-number-3">1.7</span> REPORT VIOLATIONS</h3>

If you encounter any violations of the code of conduct as proposed by this document or have any other concerns, please drop a mail at <a href="mailto:[email protected]">[email protected]</a>. We assure you of utmost discretion on our part in handling such matters. In the case that you cannot wait for us to read an email, please contact any of the Executive Council members in person.
