Hacktoberfest® is open to everyone in our global community. Whether you’re a developer, student learning to code, event host, or company of any size, you can help drive growth of open source and make positive contributions to an ever-growing community. All backgrounds and skill levels are encouraged to complete the challenge.

  • Hacktoberfest is open to everyone in our global community!

  • Pull requests can be made in any GitHub-hosted repositories/projects.

  • Sign up anytime between October 1 and October 31.

Setting up git in local system

Download git from https://git-scm.com/downloads

  • installation:

    • Go to link: Follow upto step 14
    • Check is installed properly: Open command terminal and type in it-> git --version Hit enter
    • Message generated: It shows current version of git installed
    • Getting an error: Just google the error surely you will get solution
  • Configuring git:

    • set your user name: In cmd type->git config --global user.name "John Doe"
    • set email address : In cmd type->git config --global user.email [email protected]

How to contribute?

There are two ways to contribute to this repository! Lets jump into it!!!!

  • Easy-Peasy way:

    • 🍴Fork the repository: Look for the 'Fork' button in the repository pages

    • 💕Clone the repository: Download and store the repository locally using the download button

    • 😎Code Blooded: Make changes to the project

    • 📝Commit the changes: All bind all the local changes into a commit and an attractive message

    • 📤Push the changes to the forked repository: Use the VCS controller or if it's not there in your IDE(which is very unlikely in this era), you'll need to become a bit geeky and see the geeky section to know how to push using 'bash'

    • 🙏Send your Pull Request (PR): After commiting goto the forked repository of your's and click on 'Pull request' and create one with an attractive name

    • 🕤Wait wait and wait untill its approved or fix any bugs if markes

    • 🎉TaDa! You did it!

  • The Geek's way (Using Bash Commands):

    • 🍴Fork the repository: Look for the 'Fork' button in the repository pages

    • 💕Clone the repository: git clone https://github.com/YOUR_GITHUB_USER_NAME/HacktoberFest

    • 😎Code Blooded: Make changes to the project

    • 🗳Add the changes made to git: git add .

    • 📝Commit the changes: git commit -m "ENTER AN ATTRACTIVE COMMIT MESSAGE"

    • 📤Push the changes to the forked repository: git push origin master

    • 🙏Send your Pull Request (PR): After commiting goto the forked repository of your's and click on 'Pull request' and create one with an attractive name*

    • 🕤Wait wait and wait untill its approved or fix any bugs if markes

    • 🎉TaDa! You did it!

  • Updating your forked repository with that of the parent:

    • 📥Add master repo as upstream: git remote add upstream https://github.com/aitoss/HacktoberFest_2020.git
    • 📥Fetch the changes to your local system: git pull upstream
    • 📤Push the updates to the online forked repository: git push origin master
