We are working on a browser specification to enable local collaboration: the Local Peer-to-Peer API.
It would be much appreciated to have feedback from the Anytype community on the current draft. Tools like Anytype are exactly what the API aims to enable.
Technically the API is meant to be implemented on (a stripped down version of) the OpenScreen Protocol. This protocol uses mDNS for peer discovery, just like Any-Sync, followed by an authentication step (SPAKE2). The browser is in charge of managing the peers so it can enforce the required user privacy and origin-based security. Between the peers, the API provides a full bidirectional local communication channel (WebTransport) to developers.
