So does sound work sometimes or not at all? I assume with sound you're referring to output with the computer voice, correct? Instead of using AsTeRICS Grid within the browsers, you can also try to "install" it, which essentially means to add it to the home screen. See this tutorial: https://aulaabierta.arasaac.org/en/asterics-grid_ios_install You can also try to use the Chrome browser, maybe it helps. |
Thank you for your email.
I am currently on Safari, a 9th generation iPad.
Yes I have it "installed" in the home screen of the iPad as a shortcut.
The problem is intermittent. I have raised it as a ticket now bec the sound
does not totally work at all.
I have restarted the app, logged out, and restarted the iPad.
The 1st and 2nd times it happened, I was editing boards and fiddled with
the voices.
I was using a Xiaomi Mi Pad 6 (Android) then.
I would use the "test voice" button and sounds would come out.
But when I would then try it on the board itself (English languages, how
they read certain selections)
Then I observed it did not speak after this.
This actually led me to discover WeaveChat, because I think having just a
"shortcut" of the online page on the homescreen is not so effective
especially when there's no internet.
And then I got an iPad thinking the iPad is more stable. But the same thing
happened. I would edit the boards, then look at voices.
It seems to occur when I edit boards. I'm setting up images (svg png
clipart) so I can place local vegetables and fruits into my mother's board.
Some of the images have white backgrounds and I edit them using an
online background remove and install them.
And because it was not pronouncing some items correctly, I tried
fiddling with the button actions and chose Tagalog, but to no effect, the
prononciation was the same.
Then I looked at the Settings again to look at other possible ooptions.
I have tried restarting (it would sometimes solve it) but now the problem
just prevails.
I didn't want to install Chrome for it to work but I had to and so now it
works. It seems the problem is with Safari?
Or is it when we try to shift or try out voices. I never actually shifted
to other voices except English though.
I hope you guys can look into it as Safari is native to iOS and Chrome just
pauses a lot of privacy issues.
Thank you.

Otherwise I need more detailed information about the issue (what exactly
is the problem? what did you try? what works and when does the error
occur?) in order to investigate further.

Regarding the voices, it would be interesting to see what voices are listed in the settings here: These voices depend on the operating system, so it's different on Android, iOS or Windows and on some devices it's possible to install additional voices to the system. If there is no voice installed on the system, there are some online voices, but unfortunately they aren't very reliable, so maybe this is a source of your issues. Also read this for further details: FAQ about problems with voices. Whenever possible offline voices should be used, which do not need an internet connection.
AsTeRICS Grid runs in the webbrowser, but also works without internet once installed. But if WeaveChat suits better for you, of course go ahead an use it.
You can try the action "speak custom text" to fix pronunciation, but it all depends on the voices, which are out of control of AsTeRICS Grid.
For the iPad there is not much difference between Safari and Chrome and probably the voices work better in Safari. Today I've released a new version, where you now can select |
First thank you very much for creating a wonderful and helpful app.
My mother 70 years old, is aphasic after an unfortunate stroke attack. She could not relate the letters to the sound they make so it’s really been a challenge for us to communicate even if she has high comprehension levels.
Anyway, when editing the board I oftentimes encounter a problem where I use the bookmarked icon on the iPad (Safari browser) and no sound would be produced at all, even after a restart and checking my iPads volume settings (which were working perfectly)
Please help/fix? Thank You
