Advanced Hosting on Wordpress via SFTP

I haven't seen this question anywhere and perhaps this is just a failure on our end, but we are wanting to use the advanced hosting option on our Wordpress site.

We have created a custom directory via SFTP and configured the app.json file to reflect the proper information provided to us by bullhorn. However, our custom directory is blank when referencing the index.html file and if we reference the top-level directory (/jobs) in our case it's blank or forbidden (403 error). We did attempt editing the .htaccess file to allow for this (although not needed) and have attempted to update the file read/write permissions as well.

I appreciate any help and close out if this is something that shouldn't be asked here.
