Subject of the issue/enhancement/features

After collecting data on a course that receives annual updates, we decided to change the visua11y button label from "Accessibility" in 2023 to "Preferences" in 2024. Our working theory was that the word 'Accessibility' itself might dissuade certain users from using it even if they would find it helpful.

Keep in mind that the label is visible on screen, in tooltips & is read by screenreader.

Course A

  • 2023 - 1.5% click rate
  • 2024 - 3.1% click rate

Course B

  • 2023 - 0.5% click rate
  • 2024 - 3.6% click rate

Course C

  • 2023 - 1.0% click rate
  • 2024 - 2.0% click rate

As a result, it appears that changing the label led to a click increase of 2%. It doesn't seem like much of an improvment, but this audience size is numbered as close to 200k. So the difference is in a few thousand users. I would recommend changing the label to improve visibility of visua11y options.
