Is it possible to have ankitab to redirect to the new tab page it is replacing after a question has been answered?

Implemented. You can get the version of ankiTab with the feature requested by downloading the branch answer-redirect and loading the extension unpacked into chrome/firefox.
Eventually, I'll add a config flag to let people disable/enable this and release it as a new version, but right now I sadly don't have the time needed to implement it. If you feel like implementing it, just send a PR :)
