We mention organizing our directories, but don't have folks do anything. This in an early an important concept. I am sensing that in the R-Workshop we need a short Unix lesson on pwd/cd/mkdir/cp/mv enough to ask folks to think about project organization (even where they will put their R scripts) before they start working on anything. As I teach it now, we have an "ice breaking" lesson on Metadata. We ask folks to predict:
what kind of metadata a project will generate
examine a sequence submission sheet and find errors
See for example top of etherpad here lines 70-155 (http://pad.software-carpentry.org/2017-07-06-uniarkansas).
I think if are going to spend 1.5 days on R we could start with a stripped down unix/project organization episode.
