Today I have already completed a 150 km trip with Cruiser 4. Good job! It works great! We, the users, thank you! 💐

The only problem I noticed was the constant notification. It's probably a "feature" of Android 14 or Samsung, but this notification doesn't refresh.

I use it to read (with the help of Tasker) trip data - mainly arrival times at my destination/via-points, which I share with friends. It looked like the notification got stuck. For over 3 hours, Tasker read the same data.

But as I wrote, I don't suspect this is an error on Cruiser's side, because I didn't have this problem in the past, on older Android.

you can also create another motorcycle profile, reset it to defaults and test it with simulation.

It's darkest under the lamp 😀 Sometimes the easiest solution is the hardest to come up with! I did that and everything works OK. Now I will gradually set the profile according to my preferences and we will see when problems arise - if they arise at all 🙂
I wonder if you will experience problems with my profile.

I test on different routes, between different points and it is always the same. This is BRouter E20_N50 tile. I guess the map and the theme have nothing to do with it?

I did a test: I imported the one sent above into a newly created, reset and working profile. The result is that the notification stopped working! So obviously THIS profile and THIS device don't like each other. I will try to locate which setting is causing the problem.

This is crazy!
I reset my "main" motorcycle profile which was causing the problem. Then, based on it - running on the second tablet - I clicked place by place, setting by setting, and made a 1:1 copy of the settings/profile. And now it seems to be working well!

What is it about? Is there any "junk" left in the profile after numerous attempts and older versions of the app? But why didn't exporting and re-importing the profile clear it? Strange. I hope the problem won't come back 🙂

Even in this case, the app can only use the settings that exist currently in the app version.
So old settings cannot affect the app.

Java Console says (among many other things!) that "Line 1 columnNumber 1 Content is not allowed in prolog" and some SAXParser lines.

I have v3.0.42 which loads the GPX files just fine, and v3.043b8 which fails to load the GPX - so things seem to have broken during the earlier betas.

If you test Cruiser 4.0.1 (Beta), please check if Import gpx (or gpz) is working correctly on Android (or desktop).
We need to be sure that the Import process is ok with any change.

If it had broken in the app around the same time as the Desktop, I'd have noticed much earlier 💡

I would like to give a short driving report, but with the last beta of 3.0.43.
I have planned a tour to the Bavarian Forest from Frankfurt. Everything completely on the smartphone.
I chose the curvy route with the settings of Leeb64 in #254 (reply in thread).
The whole planning only took 2 minutes, but with precisely defined parameters in the route options. Since I know this route very well and have already driven with and without various navigation programs,
I can say that Cruiser has found the most interesting route to date: many small roads, mostly without a center line, mostly through forest areas, bypassing larger Towns also worked very well.
When I arrived at my destination, I put together routes for 2 days: with 2-3 intermediate destinations, it was just a matter of minutes. These routes also led a lot through forests and meadows and past all cities. Getting through a road that was actually closed wasn't a problem either: I entered the obstacle in 100m and immediately had a detour.
Sharing with colleagues' Garmin was also super easy and everyone had my route directly on the navigation system.
The information that I receive during the journey is very clear and easy to read, be it refueling, intermediate destinations or arriving at my destination.
All in all a VERY good job from Emux!!
However, I still have one suggestion: the selection of the route depends very much on the speed set in the router menu. Sometimes the most beautiful curves are suddenly bypassed by roads when the speed changes slightly. Tinkering out the right setting is very tricky and not always absolutely self-explanatory.

Indeed, the BRouter max speed setting can influence the result.
I often leave it at the default 160km/h and just play around with the many other routing options and strengths.

We could improve it anyway. 🙂

As you (understandably) do not follow the too long Beta discussions.
A summary.

• The notification of the problem was quite correct.
• Solution was either 2 x 4 (8) panels or 3 x 4 (12) panels
• However, the 3 x 4 (12) panels where not retained.
• The checkerboard game as expected already starts over again ;-)

These last few weeks I haven't been able to read the large number of messages and since many were talking about Brouter (which I don't use because for me it has some limitations and I prefer GraphHopper). I already talked about it some time ago and it was said that it could not be done with Brouter.

I wish I had as much time as you have but I will try to do my best to follow it more and try to participate in the beta versions.
Another limitation is that I don't understand anything if it's in German and my English is a bit precarious (I understand it but sometimes I find many texts too complicated) and if the example screenshots are in German here I get lost and leave to follow the text.
My language is Catalan and in many of the messages I use the translator, both to read and to write, which slows down reading and understanding.

The way it worked in version 3.x with regards to favorites and shares I was very happy with it and I think it was very useful and understandable but the way it works now I'm disappointed, especially with the removal of features.
Anyway thanks to @devemux86 for the work he's doing, I guess it must be hard to please everyone asking for stuff.
I don't know what people who don't participate in the discussions must think.

Being able to calculate fast, fast and curved routes, all curves, ... Kurviger style is great but I prefer to have at the top of the screen:

• the place (street or road) where I will go next.

My opinion was always that redundancy in some menues is a benefit, not a disadvantage and I have written it in the discussion. I mostly use look in Google maps to check the surroundings of a waypoint or favorite, for example to check for an alternative restaurant or send the WP or favourite as plus code to a colleague as meeting place.

Last night I went down the Play Store Rabbit Hole and installed a couple of other navigation apps. I spent a little bit of time with Kurviger, mainly due to their hideous implementation of the "back" button ♻️ However, what I found coming back to Cruiser was the frustration of having to use the crosshair - tapping on a road should be enough, surely?

In general use. where a "snap-to-road" would suit most workflow, this could be solved via a config option to enable "Crosshair Accuracy" (or something). I am guessing that (lack of) integration with BRouter may be a barrier here, but returning to the app after trying a few others it was just... well, frustrating.

I could see this potential feature being a useful thing for off-roaders or when you want to place a Favorite in a specific place, but for quick-route-building - the one-touch method really does win.

Snap to road requires knowledge of the road network that routers have.
It is best such snap to be done by the routers during the route calculation.

BRouter has advanced options: "Waypoints search range" and "Correct misplaced waypoints".

In Locus map, you have the choice between accurate but slower or the fast placement.
I thought a slightly older Kurviger 1 version also offered this this way ?
Too hasty or sloppy placement sometimes causes unexpected unwanted results followed by complaints.
I thought that's why the Kurviger forum then favoured cross-hair only mode as it encourages accurate placements.

(like "Measure distance" tool works)

But this doesn't allow us to have context menu when we long press the waypoints.
That's why, and in order to have a precise location selection, we proceeded with the crosshair solution.

5 Benutzer - 6 Meinungen. Es ist tatsächlich verdammt schwierig all die verschiedenen Wünsche zu berücksichtigen.
Vielleicht sollte man die Kacheln so lassen wie sie z.B. in 3.0.42 waren wenn kein schwerer Fehler vorhanden ist. Und zusätzliche Funktionen nur erweitern. Aber die grundsätzliche Struktur immer gleich lassen.
Es ist für Benutzer die nicht ständig im Forum lesen schwierig Cruiser zu benutzen wenn sich Funktionen die es schon gab ständig ändern.
Das heißt es werden immer neue Funktionen dazukommen. Aber die "alten " sollten nach Möglichkeit gleich bleiben.

However, this does not work (any more) if the necessary space is running out or is completely lacking due to new functionalities. To "keep everything the same" simply only works as long as there are no new functions/additions... 😉

I am of the opinion that users just have to adapt to the development of an app. And due to the clear version jump from 3.0.42 to 4.0 in the case of Cruiser I don't think it's too much to ask users to rethink accordingly - where at all necessary. 😇

I think that as long as Cruiser grows and develops to this extent, it will not be inevitable that some changes will be made.
And unfortunately an app with this range of functions cannot be created without adjustments and that is what actually defines this app, which asks Comunity about its benefits and appearance!

Probably not the most helpful bug-report, but when I changed from the main "Motorcycle" profile to "MotoCurvy" (slight road preference tweaks), the Favorites (visible at zoom level 10) remained visible below that level. This is on the current 4.0.1 from the Play Store.

The non-helpful part? Now I cannot replicate it no matter how much I do the Bishop Knife Trick™️

I understand what ToToGSARider means and I see it similarly:
When I ride a motorcycle I don't have much time to orient myself on the navigation system. However, I would also like to "see" the route in front of me in advance.
But with 2D this is only possible to a limited extent for the next few meters.
With 3D I can look much further at a resolution that still maps all curves properly. And I don't have to look at the navigation system that often.

What I haven't understood so far: is it not technically possible due to restrictions in V5 or Mapsforge or is it a huge effort to implement the 3D View?

I think what people (self included) are looking for is @devemux86 to say something like: "I am not sure how to code 3D view in Mapsforge at this time, there is a lot of number-crunching involved. It isn't just a case of switching false to true.

Lack of 3D isn't a big of a deal-breaker as I thought it would be - but I totally get the lack of "distant" viewing area (I navigate in landscape), and without any option to use an external display there are some obvious drawbacks against other Apps.

I am quite happy with 2D for now as I can maintain 95% of my workflow/muscle-memory (aka: Bishop's Knife Trick) with the same App and not have to learn/subscribe something else, although the latest beta of Kurviger is actually tolerable!

Motorcyclists, cyclists or hikers have different preferences when it comes to map view.
The following are probably most popular:

• 3(2,5)D rotating maps > motorcycling.
• 2D map rotate > cycling.
• 2D map north up > hiking.

So far, in motorbike navigation videos I selected the 3D view as the most attractive presentation possible to promote Cruiser.

However, if for technical reason (A15) 3D is no longer possible then it will be what it is.

And time of developers always costs money because they need it for their apps.
