Set custom colors (icons) in via points

The next request posted in the Kurviger forum caught my eye.
"be able to set the background color in the via points"

I was wondering if Cruiser could eventually offer something like this?
Especially how to integrate this into a gpx navigation track transfer ?

I so added a possible example in #250
The additional color and icon exchange is similar to the existing transfer of favorites via gpx.

Do users find such customization useful in waypoints too?
It could complicate things and the visibility of via numbers.

I still want to mention this as in gpx files we do express it this way.

Gpx waypoints are simple individual locations that you eventually can promote into via or shaping routepoints. In the resulting gpx navigation track, these are then converted into snapped to road shaping or via trackpoints.

Cruiser displays the gpx waypoints that accompany an imported gpx track or gpx route on the map as individual cyan dots without icon support either through the gpx sym nor through the sym and color attached in the gpx extension.

So if your import file contains a limited number of gpx waypoints the display is also limited. This is clearly different with the display of either many or few favorite points this depending on the internal app setting of course.

Favorites already have different icons and colors.
And we can add more icons if needed.

External images are difficult to handle on (new) Android.

The experience difference between imported gpx waypoints display and poi app favorites display.
Years ago (before gps) we made a bicycle tour in Bavaria with the theme “Durst auf Urlaub”. Our map contained quite a lot of local breweries (favorites). We had previously selected only a few to visit (waypoints). No we definitely not visited all favorites otherwise we would not have come home yet.

As for those custom icon images Emux. So I did not mention external images this time.
In the extension examples I selected an existing Cruiser internal svg icon.

• Or you change only the color display by the color white IN the extension
• Or you change both color and icon display by color white and sym local-see IN the extension.
  A material church.svg is not yet present I think in Cruiser.

Perhaps the yellow ViaPoint "pin" could be styled via a supporting GPX and/or via a saved Cruiser app route?

When I plan+navigate, I almost always load a BaseCamp GPX file and this is alongside my exported Waypoint GPX of ~1000 cafes, fuel, hotels, photo-stops etc (which I split into groups and import as a single ZIP using my own PC app). This means I get a yellow pin and a Cruiser Favorite icon at 99.9% of my stops. With that workflow, I can understand the confusion/duplication that @devemux86 is suggesting.

@0709wiwiwi I believe that was the jist of my opening sentence, ie: handle it "in app" with the ability (as your original post requests) to specify it via a GPX if you have a supporting creation tool.

With regards the 2nd portion of my post, this was just highlighting my workflow and what I arrive at (in Cruiser). It also re-raises an earlier discussion about "mapping" icons from 3rd-party GPX files into Cruiser using its built-in icon set. So your "church" icon defined in the GPX file would map to the one in Cruiser - it may not be the same exactly but you might at least be able to have a keyword trigger+color combo. A possibility for the future.

That's why I went for the DIY approach and made a Windoze app to process my Waypoints so they appear in 9 Cruiser groups. That takes care of the obvious categories that I rely on.

Instead of matches that usually don't do what we expect,
it's simpler to import a gpx into a group in favorites
and then select their icon and color within the Cruiser.

@MotoUKRider. Okido, so slightly off-topic next..
Yes I do see what you obtain by you DIY method as Cruiser does not offer the Garmin sym icons.
Your workaround is +/- similar to solutions also used with OsmAnd. Osmand only uses the extension.
In this way OsmAnd "isolates" itself of course with what in gpx so has been in use for years now.

With icon lists the problem remains that special icons for very specific activities are not supported.
So you better do directly send the necessary icons along with the file.
With the google kmz file format and Google Earth this has been offered for a long time.
By simple gpz files this is also supported now in Locus map, inclusive TBT gpz track navigation.

Anyway by coloring a via point icon differently, the serial number is not lost.
The question in the Kurviger forum was about color, in the reply the icon suggestion was than posted..
I have mainly wondered how you could apply all this to a gpx navigation track. So it might be possible.
