I could present the IIIF-Auth API, that is part of the IIIF image interoperability standard (see https://iiif.io/ ).

I can explain the API and the general issues with authentication of access by distributed web applications and show my open-source sample implementation.

(Spoiler: put your images online for open access without authentication if you can ;-)
