This is a false positive from the virus scanners.

It happens fairly frequently. TreeLine uses the PyInstaller tool to create .exe binaries for Windows. Apparently, the signatures of all executables made with that tool look very similar to virus scanners. So, when malware gets made using PyInstaller, it ends up flagging lots of benign applications as well.

I checked some things to be completely sure:

  • The checksum from a download of the installer files today matches the files I have in my archive.
  • It's been five months and almost 2000 Windows downloads since the last release.
  • No users have reported real problems.

If you'd like to help out, please file false positive reports with the five antivirus vendors. They should all have a form for these reports. Once received, they will re-evaluate their findings.
