I just got a TFA 30.3039.IT datalogger and it seems to be almost the same solution as the ws-28xx. The VID and PID are the same, but the version i 2.0 instead of 1.0.

I'm trying to get this software to communicate with my TFA HW.

I don't have this hardware so is difficult for me to make it works with your hardware.

However: I've downloaded the windows software for your device.

  • The low level dll seems to be quite identical to TFA Primus/ws28xx hardware.
  • The windows service initialization routine seems to be similar.

Please, sync your device with software using windows. In this way the display save the ID of the usb dongle.
Actually linux driver can't do so, you have to sync with linux only to make the driver learn the display id.

I think the ws-28xx driver may work out of the box. Please try again....

That sounds promising! The TFA device presents itself as a Lacrosse on the USB, so I'm pretty sure it is the same or similar HW. I contacted TFA asking for specs and they replied that they could not share them due to agreements with their supplier.

I will give the ws-28xx driver another try. It would be great if the TFA devices could benefit from the same linux driver.

I also want to use the TFA 30.3039
Synced with Windows software and tried to use the ws-28xx driver
-> Menu shows up but it freezes when I select something - except Option f: switch operating frequency

@mekhall What are your experiences?

I got the same result as you, and so far I have not given it more time.
It would be great if it was possible to get it working somehow.

Have the TFA 30.3039.IT datalogger as well, but I get stuck at this point:
May 2 15:46:59 kreuz8b weewx[1979]: ws28xx: RFComm: console is paired to device with ID 0268
May 2 15:46:59 kreuz8b weewx[1979]: ws28xx: RFComm: generateResponse failed: unexpected response type 0
