I tried setting blog post front matter thusly:

views:        !!str "2,447"

However when displayed with {{ page.views }} it appears as 2447 and the comma is lost.

The band-aid solution is to insert a UTF-8 thin space (U+2005) also known as a 1/4 em space before the closing double quote.
