Thank you for the awesome work you've done on this!

I'm having trouble getting this to work with citations in tufte-latex. Do you have any idea how to get [@citation] or \cite{citation} to work such that it maintains the tufte-handout style?

I've tried using pandoc-citeproc but that seems to modify the formatting completely. And using the --bibtex flag in pandoc just results with empty citation points.

If I convert to .tex and then run my usual tex to pdf workflow it works but I can't get it to work through pandoc directly. I'd really appreciate your help.

Nope. I ended up just switching to using LaTeX.

I am able to add citations to my HTML output by specifying --bibliography my_refs.bib --citeproc. Still trying to make links clickable, though.
