Is your feature request related to new functionality not yet included in the product? Please describe.
A clear and concise description of what the new feature will provide.

Administrators can export metadata and files for selected objects in the repository. Main use cases:

  • Works are generally imported in bulk with CSV files. Curate users may occasionally make edits to metadata using the edit work form, however, which can mean the original CSV metadata is outdated. Having the ability to export the current metadata makes sure any needed batch edits incorporate more recent changes.

  • In some cases, research services staff are contacted to provide a full download of all files for an object. Being able to generate a package in a single process saves staff time.

Is your feature request related to a problem or a change to existing functionality? Please describe.
A clear and concise description of what the problem is. Ex. It is very difficult to [...] because [...]

Describe the solution you'd like
A clear and concise description of what you want to happen.

  • The Curate application can generate a downloadable package file that contains metadata in a CSV for a collection, work or fileset.
  • The full set of files for the selected objects can optionally be downloaded.
  • The preservation workflow metadata should also be included in the CSV.
  • The CSV should be formatted such that it could be used for re-import.

Describe alternatives you've considered
A clear and concise description of any alternative solutions or workarounds you've considered.

  • For batch metadata updates, go back to the original CSV used for import, make sure it is in sync with any manual edits in Curate, and re-run in Curate.
  • Manual process to copy and paste metadata into a spreadsheet, download files, and package them up.

How will this impact users?
A clear and concise description of how many and which types of users would benefit from this feature, or any who may be negatively impacted by the change.

  • Metadata analysts and repository administrators benefit from metadata management convenience
  • Research services staff benefit from a streamlined way to receive full objects on request.

Additional context
Add any other context or screenshots about the feature request here.

Some functionality is already provided by Bulkrax, a community developed import/export tool.

Ability to export metadata/files from an entire collection or for selected work IDs only has been implemented in Curate production as of 1/19/23. Note: export is very slow and is available through a help request (not self service).
