Is your feature request related to new functionality not yet included in the product? Please describe.
A clear and concise description of what the new feature will provide.

  • Ability to search for and display barcodes associated with a record in Library Search. This was a requested function that we were not able to implement during Phase 1, but we have now identified that the barcode information is already in the OAI and could be indexed in SOLR.

A clear and concise description of what you want to happen.

  • create a new SOLR field for storing barcode IDs
  • add the field to Keyword search and Advanced Search > Identifiers
  • show the field on the Single Item View page under the Identifiers section

A clear and concise description of any alternative solutions or workarounds you've considered.

Status quo: users/staff cannot search by barcode currently unless it has been entered somewhere in the MARC record, which is uncommon.

How will this impact users?
A clear and concise description of how many and which types of users would benefit from this feature, or any who may be negatively impacted by the change.

  • Library staff will benefit from this type of search and it will also enhance various requesting processes
  • Atlas has also requested this as part of the Ares add-on in development

  • Our OAI output stores barcodes in 997 subfield a.
