I would like to pick skills on a table, rather than a skill list #162
Comments
Hey! Thanks for opening this! Actually, I based the character sheet off the Fate Condensed character sheet: https://www.evilhat.com/home/wp-content/uploads/2013/02/Fate-Condensed-Character-Sheet-1.pdf Though perhaps it could be interesting to have some sort of "sort option" for skills to know quickly "what someone is good at vs bad at" Do you think something like this would help you out ? |
That would be an improvement, yeah. I've always used the Fate Core sheet, which has the table: https://www.evilhat.com/home/wp-content/uploads/2013/02/Fate-Core-Character-Sheet-Formfillable.pdf I find it is easier to track leveling up with the table, but sorting the skills would be ok, too. |
This issue should be taken in consideration when implementing #167 |
I would like to vote for options to either sort the skill list by rank, or to put it into a table as the OP suggested. Maybe fork the current skill list block into an additional "Skill list as pyramid" block that could be swapped out on the character sheet. |
Now that character sheets are "sections and blocks", this would be pretty hard to implement because you can mix and match blocks as you want. You could have 3 skill blocks, a separator, a text block and then 5 other skill blocks. Because of this context, it makes it pretty much impossible to know how things should be sorted out. I could try to work on a sorting algorithm that looks at how many skill blocks are beside one another and sort them depending on a section toggle or something, but I don't think it's the right approach. Perhaps a "Table block" could do the trick, but adding tables to the character sheet is also problematic because they take a lot of horizontal space while the character sheets are laid out to take space vertically. So the way I see it:
It could be possible, but its a big endeavor. Though the table block would have tons of other interesting uses |

It's hard to see if your skills are conforming to the pyramid/columns layout.
✅ Describe the solution you'd like
The standard character sheet uses a table, rather than a DnD style skill list, to lay out skill selections. This makes it easy to conform to the pyramid start point buy for Core. I'd like the ability to write in custom skills or click-and-drag a list of skills into a table to show the skill layout.
