Thumbnail Update Automation

Not sure if I'm recreating the wheel here but after getting my dashboard setup, I wanted the thumbnails to update regularly throughout the day and night. Perhaps this might help others.

Side note - couldn't get the streams working without adding stream: to my HA configuration.yaml

Note: Battery check is to ensure the camera responds, otherwise the automation times out. Delays are because the system seems to choke if you ask cameras to start and stop too quickly.

How outdated is this? I get an unknow homeassistant error when calling camera.turn_on.

OK, but I still don't understand where the generate_image image goes. It does not change the image on my camera. I still have an image from 2 weeks ago and that is an event image (when motion triggered camera).

Generate image works while the camera is streaming and captures the instant frame as a snapshot inside the camera.

Pleas detail how to save the image. This is the part I can't figure out. I have an automation that automatically generates an image 2 seconds after a stream starts, but this image never shows up on my camera, only the last event image.

Let's start from the beginning. What is it you want to achieve?

I want the still image on my RTC camera to be a recent image (snapshot so to speak) instead of only the last event image. My end goal is to have an automation that generates an image every hour to replace the current one. I actually have the automation programmed, but when I generate an image, it does not replace the last event image as the thumbnail.

Create a bug please, let me tell you how it should work;

• The camera entity will show the first motion event at reload time. Camera entity will not be updated with future motion events
• Last event entity will be updated regularly with motion events, it is not working for some but it is an issue of the decryption algorithm.
• if camera is streaming, it should regularly (every 10 seconds) update its snapshot with streaming frame, so whenever you stop streaming, you should see frame at most 10 seconds ago (this is where you should file a bug)
• if you don't want to wait for 10 seconds frame, you can call get_image to force snapshot generation (apparently this is also not working)
