Since it often makes sense to edit the .cabal file before generating the .ebuild, why not add a --edit-cabal flag so that you can bring it up in a text editor with hackport merge?
In a similar vein, a --preview flag could show you the generated .ebuild without saving it.
It would also be nice to be able to configure it so that the --edit-cabal flag is on by default. This might mean adding a --no-edit-cabal flag as well.
