Upon loading, slices have bad intensity scaling, and won't change until a new slice is loaded.

This seems to be happening with most of the medical data we load. One loads a volume in the 2D Image Viewer, and it almost always shows up as all black. Toggling the intensity scaling to other options (e.g. minmax) does nothing UNTIL one moves to a new slices, which can be quite confusing.
