🔥 Your Pitch

What we’re building is a solution for people to store and manage their bills and receipts in a much more efficient and less cumbersome way than the present system and at the same time drastically cut-down the usage of paper, water, oil for printing receipts.

In the 36-hour period allotted we hope to create a system that allows instantaneous transfer of the digital receipt generated during a transaction from the cashier’s device to the customer’s cell phone. We will ensure the spontaneity of connection and transfer by using Near Field Communication (NFC) technology which ensures minimal latency. Our solution shall be based on the advantageous availability of NFC in the customer’s device by default and wide horizon of applications of the stored receipts on the cell phone once the transaction is well forgotten about.

We will first interface an NFC module with Raspberry Pi which should allow the module to be used to receive or send data. We will then create an android application that is intended to be installed on the customer’s cell phone/ device to receive data (receipt). Finally, we will create a basic version of an application which is intended to be installed on the cashier’s device to allow it to communicate with Raspberry Pi in order to send data to it. If time permits, we will add features to the Android app to use it to extract information from every bill and store it in a systematic manner which has unbound future scope.

Our model reduces the expenditure of a business organization by cutting down the cost of paper, printers and scanners. The only costs the organization has to incur are that of a desktop and wifi which were already being incurred. This brings a 40% reduction in cost.

Our model provides a much needed and extremely advantageous receipt management system that stores all our receipts in one place in the order of the occurrence of transactions.
Most importantly, the system minimizes the damage inflicted upon the environment by completely eliminating water and oil usage and reducing the number of trees cut down for paper production. The waste produced due to non-recyclable thermal receipts will not have to be borne.

The limited time will enable us to build a prototype of the device and present a model exhibiting the transfer of digital receipts. We must understand though, that the future scope of this model is colossal.
The receipts once received by the customer can be read from and the information stored in a tabulated manner. This will allow the app to record every transaction and even calculate the balance amount left in the default bank account.

The data that will accumulate with the recording of every transaction is of immense value to the organization in order to understand and analyse the needs of the customer. Data science can be used to track trends in shopping and create estimative models.

🔦 Any other specific thing you want to highlight?

The current digitization techniques involve scanning paper bills for analytics and are hence highly inefficient and do not serve the masses. This project aims to provide a zero latency transfer of bill information thus allowing virtually any shopkeeper of any size to digitize their bills.
