What is Lucky Parking?

Project Detail:

Visualization of parking data to assist in understanding the effects of parking policies on a neighborhood by neighborhood basis in the City of Los Angeles.

The project maps the 12.5 million parking citations on a web application that is easy to use, yet able to provide meaningful insight about the parking citations that occur in their neighborhoods.

Project Importance:

To provide concise and easily understandable impact of the inequity in parking across the Los Angelous area. This product aims to empower neighborhood and city council members with the knowledge of how certain districts risks/disadvantages may out-weight the benefit of the current parking enforcement and provide data to showcase the inequity in the current system.

UX researchers' responsibilities

As UX researchers, we listen to our stakeholders and team members to create research together. We listen to best create research questions that match the impact we want to have on the team and product. We decide which method best services the information we aim to obtain. We act ethically regarding the information we collect from our users and how we advocate for their needs in the product.

As of October 2021, our current goal is to conduct user interviews with a usability evaluation component to assess what current user needs are and concept test the beta platform. Our ideal user group are neighborhood or city council members in Los Angelous.

UX researchers will deliver the following:

  1. A Research plan + Script (In progress, needs to be approved by Bonnie)
  2. Conduct interviews (Deliverables are notes)
  3. Analyze the interviews and pull out themes
  4. Create deck to present to team

With our contribution, we can empower the UI and Dev team to design a product/service to our users that match their needs and expectations.

UX Product Roadmap:

Research:

  • Initial research was done under the understanding that the product was to be created for a general citizen of LA. A competitive analysis was conducted on consumer parking apps (Spot Angel, Spot Hero, etc.). Analysis was presented to team to highlight areas which parking data could fill in gaps in current market. Foundational Interviews were conducted with individuals who live in large metropolitian cities and evaluated current parking strategies and habits. Findings were presented and brainstorming session was conducted with cross-functional team. At this cross-road, team decided that focus needed to be narrowed down to support current Hack for LA projects. Ideal user group was narrowed to neighborhood and city council members. The goal would be to provide a tool to create data comparisons of parking inequity across Los Angelous.
  • New interviews need to be conducted in order to address smaller more focused set of individuals in order to create design/layout of parking data that would meet user needs and expectations.
