Our version of the Flag of Ukraine (24a9edd) is more accurate than what is on Wiki Commons. Namely, our version fixes the colors to match the Pantone colors specified in Ukraine's legislation. From the "ДСТУ_4512:2006 "), here: https://uk.wikisource.org/wiki/%D0%94%D0%A1%D0%A2%D0%A3_4512:2006

Hi @wyattoday, the Wiki Commons page you referring to is protected against reuploading and I have a doubt about replacing it. The 1200x800 SVG version was uploaded here Flag of Ukraine (Pantone colors) and referenced at the original Wikimedia and Wikipedia posts. Please let me know if you see anything else we can do here.

Well, the goal should be to update the existing file, rather than create a new file. Because now there are 2 files -- the incorrect one (the one being linked to from everywhere) and the correct one (a new one linked from nowhere).

There is some process to get the "locked" file updated. I don't know the process, or the "reputation" hoops you need to jump through to get the file updated, but that needs to be done for this issue to be closed.

I contacted Wiki support with the questions regarding permissions to reupload protected files, here is the response I got:

You may want to first discuss this on the Flags Project's talk page but first review the Colors section of this page https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Commons:WikiProject_Flags where Pantone colours are specifically not recommended because Pantone colours are for printing and not for web use. Only then start a discussion on the talk page https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Commons_talk:WikiProject_Flags. You may just be wasting your time if your flag images will not be used.

Here are the recommendations from the "Colors" section of the WikiProject Flags

Many flag specifications include references to the PANTONE color system. PANTONE's Color Finder serves a webpage when given a color code; the HTML source can then be examined to extract the appropriate RGB values. But this is really not recommended, because this system is not intended for digital usage, because it's a printing color palette, there is no accurate or official standardized converter.

It is recommended to use the international standardized color palette for flags from the FIAV. You can also use {{Tincture}} to mark this.

@wyattoday, what are your thoughts about all these? Should we start a new repo to cover international standardized color flags? :)

There is no "international" system for flag colors. There are several contradictory groups that claim to have "definitive" versions of flags. These groups are at best useful resources to find primary sources (i.e. government legislation / documents that provide specific designs).

Governments determine their flag design and colors. Some government lay out specific flag designs & colors to use when making physical flags (Pantone being a popular choice). When governments specify specific colors we will use those colors.

So, that page is wrong (or, half correct).

Only if it will be productive. There's a lot of gate-keeping in these communities that I don't really have the energy or time to deal with right now.

If you think pointing out why they're wrong will only antagonize them, then I'd say no, leave it be for now. Them having the wrong flags isn't the end of the world.
