replace drill press depth gauge #101
Comments
Marius designed and laser cut a replacement piece today, attaching it to the drill may be risky as we'll have to drill into the glued portion of the two-layer acrylic glass piece. I'll try doing that tomorrow to make sure the glue has really had time to dry. |
I adjusted the threaded rod and the indicator on the new piece today...not re-opening the issue yet but it seems it can come loose, we should have an eye on it! |
The acrylic glass came loose and eventually broke yesterday, wood (or metal) seem to be better options. The design should be adjusted a bit so it can be closed more tightly - @ragflyer, do you still have the file? |
Yes I think we should consider getting rid of the thread rod as it gets stuck too easily. |
How would we adjust the height then? I think the rod can work fine if it is
fixed well and faces straight up.

Someone mounted the old rubber piece again and it works for now but I believe it's only a matter of time until the problem will reappear. |
the part of the depth gauge (Tiefenanschlag) that goes around the chuck is made of rubber, which causes two problems that led to us taking it off the drill press this Wednesday:
If you need the depth gauge feel free to try and reattach it, but laser cutting or scroll sawing a more stable part would be the better option. 4 or 5 mm acrylic glass should work, just use the original part for reference but keep in mind a stiff material will make it necessary to split the ring into two parts.
