*so viele Neuigkeiten, so wenig Zeit - diesmal ohne deutsche Übersetzung, bitte meldet euch falls etwas unklar ist!*
Dear Makers,
spring is coming and the Maker scene awakens! That observation is borrowed from a Make: article [1], but it seems to be true - here's another load of news for you:
The biohackers from Biotop Community Lab e. V. will hold their first workshops of the year on March 18 and 25, 13:30-17:30. This time the focus lies on mushroom-based materials: by connecting and strengthening various substrates with fungal "roots", you can get an interesting array of properties. So if you wish to have a glimpse in the future, or you want to add an extra point to your maker skills, or want to grow a biodegradable flower pot/lampshade/coaster/... Join in! Please visit the event page [2] for more information and fill out the online form if you want to participate.
Between the two installments of this double seminar (the mushrooms need some time to grow), you are kindly invited to the next Fusion 360 seminar [3] at the CoMakingSpace on March 24, 14:00-17:00. The seminar is aimed at CAD beginners, so no previous knowledge is required but it will also be interesting for people who have some experience in other CAD programs and want to start using Fusion 360. You will mainly look at the design process for parts which can be manufactured on a 3D printer or a CNC router.
Please bring your laptop with Fusion 360 already installed and a normal mouse with a wheel. If you have trouble with the installation, just come in a bit earlier and you can get help you with the setup.
Maybe you have already heard that there is an interesting conference coming up in Heidelberg: the “MakerCon” (April 12-14) [4]. It is intended for Makers who want to build communities or make and sell products such as electronics kits. If the entrance fee is too high for you, there are good news: The CoMakingSpace has some tickets to give away and YOU can win them!
Here’s how you can participate and increase your chances to win:
- as a member: simply tell us you are interested!
- in the Space: sign up on the list that will hang on the office door (March 12-24)
- on Facebook: like "CoMakingSpace" [5], share the post announcing this raffle and comment why you would like to go
- on Twitter: follow "CoMakingSpace" [6] and retweet the announcement post
- on Instagram: follow "CoMakingSpace" [7] and share the announcement post
So you see, with a little bit of effort you can get your name into the pot up to five times! The winners will be drawn on March 24th - good luck ;-)
Also worth noting, the CoderDojo HD was founded in the beginning of the year and they already have so many interested children that they are desperately looking for additional mentors [8] who are passionate about coding and teaching. Please get in touch with them if that could be you! You don't need to be a perfect programmer, being interested and willing to pick up a few new things should be enough to help the kids :-) They are currently using Scratch and will add Python sessions soon.
And last but not least we are opening our platform for a big private company for the first time. On a general note, that may be something we should somehow discuss within our community: how our stand is on cooperating with the private industry...
We were approached by the BASF, or more precisely by their 3D printing subdivision, with a job offer. They are based at the „Heidelberg Innovation Labs“ close to the Montpellier bridge, and they are looking for interested young people (with a clear focus on students) who are interested in working for BASF in the field of 3D printing research and development. Anyone who is interested can contact Jasper via his DAI eMail address or the CoMakingSpace team for details.
Here is the basic information of the job description:
Cheers,
Jasper & Lukas
