One strategy is to use terms (from DwC occurrence core and in progress DNA-derived data extension) such as associatedSequences, identificationRemarks, identificationReferences, and sop to provide links and references to resources the data provider might maintain within the data itself as well as the metadata. These might include DOIs to published articles, biosampleIDs from SRA, links to protocols on protocols.io, and links to processing code on GitHub.
This works well enough for now, but it's worth thinking about the fact that data providers and host websites may not intend/be able to maintain the linked content in perpetuity.
How to include protocols in Dwc-A?
Use of ocean best practices, or protocols.io URI
