Im currently editing my inventoiry nbt files, but when i finish the file and save it, it shows no update! help

is this in single player or a dedicated multiplayer server?

In single player you have to delete your player's .dat file and edit the level.dat as inventory is stored there now for the player.

In multiplayer you edit the player's .dat file.
