I installed scimax on both my Windows and Linux machines. When I went to edit a tex file on both, the Windows machine was running AUCTeX, as could be seen by the major mode listing as "LaTeX/P" and e.g. section headers having special highlighting and a bigger font. On Linux, it ran the default "LaTeX" mode, which was missing AUCTeX's pleasantries.

This can be resolved by manually installing AUCTeX on Windows.

In both cases, I installed scimax into a temporary directory and launched it with ./scimax.sh

emacs versions: linux (Ubuntu 24.04) has 29.3 and windows (11) has 29.1
