Posting without ruining current stream marker position

Since Alpha gained stream marker support I've been annoyed that you have to scroll to the top of the page to create a new post. This scrolling sets the stream marker to the latest post displayed in the stream.

If I haven't been on App.net in a day but just want to post something quickly I have to abandon all the posts I would normally read, just to post some nonsense in the moment. Could there be a way to present a modal posting window? Or maybe have the current post area become sticky like the sidebar?

I would also like this. Until issue #9 is addressed (my feeling there's currently too much white space) I think a space-saving pop down (or a modal window) would work better than a fixed dialogue.
